Mercury Rising Triathlon is owned and operated by Sara Gross and Carrie Meakin, who share their head coaching position with Clint Lien. 'We decided to start a triathlon team because we wanted the athletes we work with to feel that they are part of something bigger, to have a community, and wear their team kit proudly. We also wanted to create a platform from which we can all give back to the sport and the community that has given so much to us. Thus, we created The Inspiration Series, a series of charity events that will not only raise money for worthy causes, but also offer inspirational people and speakers a chance to share their stories, experiences and knowledge with the athletes and their communities.'
The name 'Mercury Rising' was inspired by the fleet-footed god Mercury. In the 4th century BC, this god came into popularity as Roman and Greek religions became increasingly syncretized. Julius Caesar wrote of Mercury as being the most popular god in Britain and Gaul. In Celtic areas, Mercury was often portrayed with three faces since the magical number three was thought to bring luck. Among other things, Mercury was known as the god of swift travel and was often depicted wearing winged shoes. Some legends even attribute the invention of the wheel to good ol' Mercury. Who could be more perfect to represent our triathlon team?

"Being part of the Mercury Rising team has afforded me the opportunity to train with many remarkable athletes. They are not only fellow triathletes, but friends who are extremely support and encouraging. I am fortunate to be affiliated with such a great group of individuals who make up an amazing team!"
