Since 2007 (I was involved in the sport previously, I’m returning from a 5 year hiatus)Sporting background: I don’t really have much of a sporting background. I started running, a bit, when I was in university as a way to lose weight. After university, I started spectating/volunteering at local athletic events until I finally got up the nerve to run my first 10k in April 2003.
Why I do triathlon: I triathlon for a couple of reasons: Because I suck at golf (just kidding…I do suck at golf but that’s not really a reason for why I do triathlon); to stay fit; for the camaraderie and for the incredible energy at triathlon events. Honestly, who doesn’t think going to a running or triathlon event is one of the funnest thing ever!? Being there with a few hundred people, friends and strangers, all you of there for your own reasons and all of you there for the same reason…to accomplish something personal. Some of us will log hundreds of hours swimming, biking and running together. Some of us will just see each other at the same races year after year. We chat at the starting line, in the transition area, we cheer each other on. Outside of triathlon, maybe we don’t know anything about each other, but at a triathlon, we’re friends. It’s cool.
Triathlon Accomplishments:
- June 2004 Oliver ½ Iron Triathlon 2nd F25-29
- May 2005 Kids to Camp mini Tri (Kamloops, BC) 2nd F25-29
- June 2005 Wine Capital Sprint Triathlon (Oliver BC) 5th 25-29
- July 2005 Penticton Peach Classic 6th F25-26
Triathlon Goals: For now my triathlon goals are just about enjoying the sport and having fun. It’s been a while since I’ve been out there so I just want to have a good time. Maybe next year, I focus on improving my swimming, biking and running. This year I plan to do a few sprints and Olympics; hopefully a ½ iron or two and maybe one of these days I’ll attempt an Ironman.
