Years In The Sport

Since 2004

Sporting background: I got involved in sport pretty late in life. I would do some running and gym work but once I got into reasonable shape I’d return to my old bad habits. At age 54 and 240 pounds I decided to join the local Running Room. The goal was to make fitness a part of my lifestyle which I’ve stuck to.

Why I do triathlon: I tried the just running thing and it isn’t enough. I like the overall fitness that triathlon training provides. It’s a work in progress, you never get where you want to be and every new level gives one a sense of accomplishment. I love to race, there is nothing more fun than passing someone. Triathletes are a great group of people to hang with. Generally they are type A personalities. They work hard and they play hard. We love to kick each others ass but always support one another. The friendships I’ve developed are awesome.

Triathlon Accomplishments: I’ve completed several HIM races and 3 IM Canada races. Last year was my first IM without starting the race injured and things went pretty well. The run portion was my best yet.

Triathlon Goals: At a minimum to be in the top 25% of my age group. This year I go to the age 60 group so I’m the young puppy in this crowd. Lets see what happens.
